Representative office for IWMA established in China

Despite the difficult global economic situation the IWMA recognises that China will continue its impressive rate of growth, albeit at perhaps a slightly slower rate than in recent years.  Undoubtedly, thirst for knowledge about the latest wire and cable industry developments, requests for assistance at major industry events as well as the unique networking opportunities and other benefits provided by the IWMA, arguably the most influential global corporate trade association for the industry, will continue to attract membership applications from Chinese organisations.

Recognising and anticipating this ongoing Chinese interest in the IWMA the Association has decided to appoint a new representative office in China to facilitate communications and make it even easier for local organisations to join and benefit fully from being IWMA members.  Accordingly the IWMA is pleased to announce that Sinosteel Zhengzhou Research Institute of Steel Wire Products Co Ltd (SZRISWP) has agreed to represent the IWMA in the PRC.

SZRISWP is a scientific research institute directly under the original Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In 1999, the research institute was turned into a science technology enterprise becoming a subsidiary company of Sinosteel Corporation.

As the sole specialized scientific institution of the Chinese steel wire products industry, SZRISWP engages in the application, research and development for new materials, new products, new technologies and new equipment of various steel wires and ropes, employs nearly four hundred people and has an annual capacity of thirty thousand tonnes of steel wire products.

The SZRISWP moved to the National Zhengzhou Hi-tech Industries Development Zone in 2006

 Sinosteel Corporation

The Sinosteel Corporation is a central enterprise managed by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. It has 69 sub-enterprises, among which 49 are in China and 20 abroad. The income of the main management business in 2007 was 110 billion RMB.

Sinosteel mainly engages in metallurgical mineral resource development and processing, trading and logistics of metallurgical raw materials and products, relative engineering technology service and equipment manufacture. It is a large enterprise integrating resource development, trade and logistics, engineering and science and technology, providing comprehensive auxiliary and system integration services for the steel industry, especially steel mills. China has the largest steel and iron industry globally and following rapid development and output of steel and iron produces one third of the world total output of which wire rod represents over fifty percent and steel wire is around thirty percent of the world total outputs.

The IWMA is delighted to have formed an alliance with such an important wire industry organisation in China to represent it. IWMA members in China can communicate and pay membership fees through SZRISWP or contact the IWMA Secretariat direct according to taste.  Similarly, new member applications may be made either through SZRISWP or direct to the secretariat.  Applications can also be made online on the IWMA website www.iwma.org
