IWMA wire Düsseldorf 2018 Gala Evening

We were delighted to welcome over 300 members to this year’s wire Düsseldorf 2018 Gala Evening – with a slightly different format. This year we opted for a more sociable, informal environment with an area of high tables and chairs and long tables for those that wished to take a seat. The new format allowed for more networking opportunity and provided a more relaxed/fun evening after a busy day at the show.

During the evening guests enjoyed a fantastic buffet of traditional German food and music from Bergvagaburden. New IWMA Chairman Martin Van Der Zwan opened the evening saying -

It is wonderful to see so many friends here and I would especially like to welcome special guests from our wire industry partner, Messe Dusseldorf and our fellow wire industry associations. Our focus throughout the exhibition and beyond will be on greater marketing of the Association to increase our membership and to try and bring improved benefits through:

1) Educational sponsorship,

2) Information flow via our members section on our website.

3) Biennial Forums on cutting edge technology and fundamental training workshops.

and also continuing to grow our popular networking events when attending the satellite wire exhibitions around the world, including of course wire China in September and wire India in November”

The evening also saw the celebration of the IWMA Educational Trust Fund Travel Award Scheme winners and of the CabWire Industry Forum 2017 Paper Award and the new Training Fundamentals Award winners.

This year’s Paper Award went to Dr Simon Sutton of Doble Engineering Company for the paper entitled "Predicting watertreeing behaviour: how much do we really know?".

And the new Training Fundamental Award went to Mr David Clowes of Inductotherm Heating & Welding Ltd for the “Fundamental of Induction Heating”.

Congratulations to both winners!

The evening also saw us bid a fond farewell to Debi Coleman. After 15 years of service to the IWMA she is retiring at the end of April and was presented with a token of our extreme thanks for the loyal and passionate service she has given us over the years.

Feedback from guests during the evening was that the new format was welcomed as it gave members more opportunity to catch up and talk to more people. You can view pictures of the evening by clicking on the below link and entering username as your email address and password is – dusseldorf
